This is driven by three basic instincts:
Development provides a legacy.
The Architect and the Client share a responsibility to
mankind to safeguard and conserve earth’s natural resources, to combat climate change and protect future generations from the consequences of our actions.
This is the process which leads to reality in the form and spaces created and activities enabled. Architecture is bringing the creative process to a satisfactory widely appreciated conclusion.
Development is regulated by law through Local Authorities and typically involves a pre-application advice request, detailed designs and written explanations. Applications involving heritage buildings and conservation areas require a deeper understanding of the significant effects of the proposal.

In addition to the restoration of navigation through Derby the Trust’s objectives include the development of sustainable communities alongside the Canal and initiatives to promote ‘green’ environment, investment and wildlife corridors in the urban areas through which it passes. Feasibility work is taking place on devising a Regional Tourist attraction called the Derby Arm and a new Marina both of which will contribute to the future running costs of the Canal.
